The University of Tennessee, Knoxville in collaboration with Arizona State University has created the Cross-Institutional Research Engagement Network (CIREN) for cyberinfrastructure (CI) facilitators. The purpose of this NSF-funded project is to fill critical gaps in the development and retention of CI facilitators via training, mentorship and research engagement.
Mission
Our mission is to enable transformative research discoveries by connecting researchers with computational expertise.
The CIREN program provides training and mentorship to current and future CI facilitators to enable and expand their ability to engage in transformational research utilizing high-performance computing, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. This program also recruits, trains, and engages CI facilitators within multi-disciplinary, cross-institutional research projects. These research engagements increase the impact and scope of the research and serves as an effective model to nurture an innovative research community.
Facilitation
The CIREN project provides training and mentorship opportunities to new cyberinfrasturcture (CI) facilitators. The training curriculum for new CI facilitators includes 256 hours of training including a 6-month mentored project with an experience CI facilitator. More information about CIREN CI facilitation is on our facilitation page. Visit our staff page for more information about our facilitators and mentors.
CI facilitators are supported for at least 25% of their time while engaged in training, mentorship, and research engagements. If you are interested in learning more about being a CIREN CI facilitator please complete the following Google web form.
Research Engagement
CI facilitators supported by CIREN (at about 20% effort) work on research projects in the areas of high-performance computing (HPC), machine learning (ML), and artificial intelligence (AI). These research engagements between researchers and CI facilitators are focused 6-month collaborative projects where a CI facilitator works with a research group to advance their research capabilities vi the inclusion of HPC, ML, or AI methodologies. More information about CIREN research engagement is on our research engagement page. Visit our projects page for more information about our past and current projects.
Researchers (UTK Faculty and Staff) conducting research in one or more areas supported by the NSF are eligible to submit a research engagement request. Researchers interested in a CIREN research engagement should complete the following Google web form.
